Sex Offenses

A conviction for a sex crime can be uniquely devastating. If convicted, you can face substantial time in confinement. And if you are lucky, you may spend that time in harsh, administrative segregation to separate you from general population. It can be a horrible, dangerous, deadly experience to endure.

When you survive, you basically face what will feel like a life sentence as a registered sexual offender or predator. You also risk being involuntarily committed to an institution for up to the rest of your life.

Though not an exclusive list (and the law is always changing), sex offenses often include the following:

  • Lewd or lascivious acts – exhibition, physical contact, and other conduct with a person younger than 16.

  • Sexual battery – non-consensual sexual activity forced or coerced, or occurs with an alleged victim that is incapacitated.

  • Statutory rape – sexual activity, regardless of “consent,” involving an alleged victim under the age of consent.

If you cross state lines (actually, virtually, or attempt to), you can face charges in federal court.

And if you wear our Nation’s uniform, you will find yourself rolled up into a system that is more political than legal.

Sexual assault prosecutions make up the vast majority of courts-martial; more than any other offense. Because the military fears Congress, the only things keeping you from trial is your abject surrender or the withdrawal by the alleged victim.

Whether you are charged with a sex crime in state court, federal court, or a military court-martial, be sure to work with an experienced sex crimes lawyer who will aggressively and proactively prepare your defense while professionally negotiating with the prosecution for the best outcome possible.
